The 12 BEST Places to Stay in the Adirondack Mountains
Updated: Apr 24, 2019
One of my favorite things about being a photographer is the fact that I live in the Adirondacks. Some people love street photography, photos in front of barns and cornfields, or in-studio photography - but I am obsessed with the Adirondack Mountains. I have an endless supply of stunning backdrops for my photos!
The ADKs are truly incredible.
Do you like hiking? Skiing? Fishing? Boating? How about cute little vacation towns? Snowmobiles? Wildlife?
Honestly, I think that the Adirondack region has something for everybody (but if you hate cold weather, just be careful when you choose to visit).
If you are getting married and looking for a honeymoon destination - or are planning to elope - the Adirondacks might be the perfect option. And if you're looking for a cozy getaway with your spouse or your entire family, the ADKs should be near the top of your list.
Below is a list of 12 of the BEST places to stay in the Adirondacks:
This riverfront cabin near Lake Placid is a "recently renovated 1800's guesthouse." Even through the renovations, it has maintained the cozy, aged character that I love about the Adirondacks. It's close to Whiteface Mountain - one of the 46 ADK high peaks - which has a highway that takes you almost all the way to the peak without breaking a sweat!
If you like historic castles, this is the place for you. The Inn at Erlowest is a luxurious resort with impeccable customer service and a prime location. Lake George is a busy vacation destination and has dozens of cute shops, great restaurants, boat rentals, and pretty much everything else you need for your getaway.
Located in Lake Placid, NY, the GO - Cottages are cute little getaways for you and your significant other. Choose your pick between a 2 bedroom cottage or the adorable studio cottage - whichever suits you best. Minutes from hiking trails, high peaks, cute coffee shops + diners, these cottages are sure to capture your heart!
This ADORABLE cabin is also located in Keene Valley. It sits by Johns Brook and is also within minutes of hiking trails, food, a tennis club, shopping and more. Tucked away in the trees, this cabin is full of rustic Adirondack charm that you will not want to miss out on.

The Whiteface Lodge should probably jump up to the top of the list. This resort boasts more accolades than you can probably think of: AAA Four Diamond Hotel, Forbes Four Star Property, CBS “5 Best Ski Lodges in the U.S.," etc. Plus, the Whiteface Lodge is about as 'Adirondack' as you can get with many handcrafted ADK furnishings and lumber that was "hand-milled on site." It is (understandably) probably one of the most popular wedding destinations in the Adirondack State Park.
This adorable cabin welcomes your dogs (the yard is completely fenced in!) as well as your adventurous soul. And for the more adventurous, there is a lean-to and fire pit on the property to complete the rugged Adirondack experience!
Visiting the ADKs with a large family or with a bunch of friends? The High Rock Fort might be your best bet, because it sleeps 12-14 guests. This beautiful home has a 'cabin' feel on the inside and out. The walls are covered in knotty pine, it has two fire pits and a wood burning stove, and a variety of Adirondack furniture. The open floor plan and high ceilings would most likely keep it feeling spacious even with a large group of guests.
